Conciliation talks between the Midwives’ Union and the Ministry of Finance broke down yesterday, and now the strike action is being intensified even further.

From tomorrow at 3pm, midwives at the National Hospital maternity ward will no longer be providing emergency services, according to Annika Hoydal, the head of the Midwives’ Union.

The Midwives took industrial action on 8 November, demanding that their salaries should match the level of responsibility in their job. But the finance ministry says it cannot meet these demands because that would lead to cuts elsewhere in the welfare system.

Hoydal says that the Midwives’ Union can no longer be held responsible for the situation at the National Hospital maternity ward, as the dispute is about “only a couple of thousand DKK”.
