Man jailed for kitchen knife assault

A man has been handed a six-month prison sentence for assaulting another man with a knife at a party on New Year’s Day.
The defendant denied all charges, saying he has no recollection of the incident.
He was charged with cutting another man’s hand using a large kitchen knife.
The sentence was extended because had the victim not covered his face, the knife would “most likely” have hit him in the face or the throat. The victim is at risk of suffering permanent injuries to his hands as a result of the attack.
The defendant was also charged with attempted aggravated assault because he was planning to use the kitchen knife on another man around the same time. He was, however, cleared of this charge due to lacking evidence.
He has been held in custody since the New Year’s Day incident.
