Runavík City Council has received an application from Keldan about taking water from three rivers in the area and convert it into electricity. The three rivers are Svínagjógv, Garðará and Øksnagjógv.

The City Council’s technical department has given the green light for Keldan to use Garðará og Øksnagjógv for this purpose, pending approval from the Environment Agency.

Since Svínagjógv is being used only for the provision of drinking water, Keldan was not granted permission to use this river for its project. Representatives from Keldan decline to comment on the plan at this point.
