New district planned in Tórshavn

Tórshavn City Council is planning to build a 6,600 square-metre nursing home in the Marknagil district, near the new Glasir college.

In October 2017, the council appointed a building committee to come up with a construction plan for a nursing home and a series of sheltered homes. The area recommended for this purpose is above the ‘undir Fjalli’ student flats.

The City Council’s plan is to turn the Marknagil area into a district hub, complete with grocery stores, day-care centres, schools and other educational institutions, residential houses and a hall for cultural activities.
