Contract signed for autism care home

Landsverk, which oversees road, harbour and entrepreneurial tasks, has signed a contract with Kontrast about the planning of a new autism care home in Tórshavn.
Children and youths with autism have special needs which the parents cannot always meet. To offer these children and their families a decent life, it is important that the state provides suitable facilities, respite care and in some cases accommodation.
The plan is to build a district hub with three main units: one with six accommodation places, one with six respite care places and one activity unit in which children and teenagers can engage in various leisure activities.
Growing demand
It is estimated that the demand for such services will increase in the coming years, which is why it is deemed crucial to face this challenge as soon as possible.
This time last year, Parliament approved the construction law regarding the construction of a care home and a respite care home in Tórshavn for children and youths with autism.
Consultancy firm Kontrast was the only bidder in the tender, and the offer was accepted. The construction work is scheduled to start in April next year, and the new care home is expected to be completed in April 2022.
