If you are planning to fly with Scandinavian Airlines from Friday onwards, you may be facing a cancelled flight.

The company’s pilots say they will take industrial action on Friday, after talks with the airline broke down earlier this month.

According to René Arpe, chairman of the Danish Airline Pilots’ Association (DALPA), the dispute mainly revolves around working hours, with many pilots complaining that they have too little control over their working hours.

“Unacceptable conditions”

“The only thing most of the pilots normally hear about their working hours for the next month is that they will only be allowed one weekend off,” says Arpe.

“In some cases, they have to work seven weekends in a row, and that is simply unacceptable.”

The disputing parties will continue to work toward a solution, but failing that, SAS aircraft may not be taking off from airports in the Nordic area.

PR manager: no cause for concern

However, the airline’s PR manager, Mariam Skovfoged, insists that passengers have nothing to worry about.

“As a major airline, we are always prepared. I am confident that we fill find a solution,” she says.
