Tórshavn City Council’s building committee will spend the summer months looking for cheaper options for a new orphanage

The first proposal for building a new orphanage in Tórshavn had a budget of DKK 60 million. Then it went up to DKK 65m, then to DKK 85m, and now it is estimated at DKK 135m.

Parliament did not manage to approve the project before going on its summer break. Although generally considered unfortunate, this delay gives Tórshavn City Council’s building committee time to properly assess the increasing cost estimates.
One of the reasons for the increased costs is that the square metre price has risen from DKK 20,000 at the start of the planning to DKK 25,800 today.
