Faroese Volvo dealership Wenzel has recalled about 100 cars over fire fears

Swedish carmaker Volvo is recalling more than half a million of its diesel-powered cars worldwide after discovering a fault that can cause the engine to catch fire.

The problem is said to affect models with four-cylinder diesel motors manufactured between 2014 and 2019. This includes the V40, V60, V70, S80, XC60 and XC90 models.

“In very rare cases” a plastic part of the engine can “melt and deform” and in extreme cases catch fire, according to a statement from Volvo.

Cars called in for modifying

Approximately 100 cars have been called in for checks and modification work in the Faroes, says Rúni Djurhuus, CEO of P/f Wenzel, which represents Volvo in the Faroe Islands.

Volvo is a popular car brand in the Faroes, with total sales of 173 passenger cars last year.
