The Port of Tórshavn expansion project, expected to be completed in November 2019, is estimated to cost DKK 465 million.

Construction work is going well, and the project is tracking along according to schedule and budget, says Tóki á Steig, who is in charge of the project.

Last week, a large concrete box, a so-called caisson, was lowered into the sea at the end of the new quay to ensure that ships do not drift into the new structure.

Some 60,000 cubic metres of rock are being blasted at Glyvursnes every day. A total area equivalent to 13 football pitches will be drilled and blasted for the project.

The port expansion adds 95,000 square metres to the port, with 900 additional meters of quayside.

Upon completion, the total size of the dock will be 124,000 square metres.

Some 70 people are currently engaged in the project, which is run by J&K Petersen concrete contractors.

The video below shows blasting at Glyvursnes.
