High Court upholds cannabis sentence

Two Lithuanian citizens have been handed eight-month jail sentences for trying to smuggle hashish to the Faroes.
The convicts, a man and a woman, travelled to the Faroes from Denmark with passenger ship Norrøna earlier this summer.
The fridge in their caravan was found to contain 15 cans labelled as containing preserved food.
Upon closer inspection of the cans, customs officers found four kilos of cannabis resin, known as hashish, which the prosecution claims the convicts planned on selling in the Faroes.
The street value of the hashish is estimated at DKK 1 million.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty, claiming they were not aware of the contents of the cans.
