Additional grant for sports confederation
An extra DKK 500,000 is needed to prepare a new bid for Olympic recognition

The supplementary estimates presented to Parliament yesterday by the finance minister include a DKK 500k additional grant to the Faroese Confederation of Sports and Olympic Committee (ÍSF).

A new application for Olympic recognition is being prepared, and this requires funding for external consultancy and extra coordination work for ÍSF.

Since ÍSF does not currently have the financial resources for this project, the government has recommended the additional grant for this year.

Faroese authorities have for years sought to field Faroese athletes at future Olympic Games rather than being part of the Danish team.

It has, however, not yet been possible to convince the IOC to approve the Faroese bid due to the requirement that member nations must be recognised by the United Nations as independent states.

The Olympic committees in Denmark, Norway and Iceland all support independent Faroese and Greenlandic representation in the IOC.
