Rising number of overnight stays

The number of overnight stays at hotels and hostels increased by more than 7,000 in 2018, compared with the previous year.
Last year, 151,717 overnight stays were registered, which is 7,243 more than in 2017, an increase of 5 percent, according to Statistics Faroe Islands.
Mostly Nordic visitors
Thirty-one percent of the visitors came from Denmark, 21 percent were Faroese and 20 percent from elsewhere in the Nordic region. Twenty percent came from elsewhere in Europe, while the remaining 8 percent were from outside of Europe.
The most remarkable change, however, is that the number of people coming to the Faroes for work purposes has risen by 52 percent in the past year, while tourist numbers went down by 18 percent in the same period.
These figures do not include Airbnb as Statistics Faroe Islands has no access to Airbnb data. Also not included is data from other forms of private domestic accommodation.
