On Saturday, public transport company Strandfaraskip Landsins signed a deal with Norwegian shipyard GS Marine Produksion regarding the construction of a new replacement ferry.
The new ferry, a so-called trimaran, which will cost DKK 33.7 million to build, is expected to be ready for use on 1 May next year.
Capable to run on electricity or gas oil, the new ferry has a capacity of 96 passengers and three passenger cars and can reach a top speed of 20 knots.
