Brandur Sandoy is one of the mayors who took up their parliamentary seat last week.

He announced before the general election that he is quitting local politics.

On 26 October, Sandoy will be celebrating his tenth anniversary as mayor of Sandur in Sandoy, after which he will be standing down.

Dilemmas for other mayors

Tórshavn’s mayor, Annika Olsen, has announced that she will focus fully on her mayoral role and will not take a seat in Parliament as long as she is mayor.

Heðin Zachariasen, mayor of Sunda Municipality, says he will consult with the town council on whether he can take up the dual role of mayor and MP. He says he will not run for the next local election.

Kristin Michelsen, mayor of Tvøroyri, has been told by the local council that he cannot be an MP and mayor at the same time.
