Population now close to 52,000
The population in the Faroes is fast approaching 52,000, according to Statistics Faroe Islands.
The excess of births from 1 October 2018 to 1 October 2019 was 280, and the net migration figure was 595.

Eysturoy, Vágar and Tórshavn saw the greatest increase over this period. In Norðoyggjar, the growth was slightly lower, in Suðuroy even lower, while Sandoy had a decrease in its population.
In the capital area, the figure went up by 381 and by 267 in Eysturoy. Vágar’s population grew by 81 and Norðoyggjar by 80.
Streymoy, excluding Tórshavn, saw an increase of 40 citizens, Suðuroy 32, while Sandoy had an overall decrease of six citizens in the past year.
