Supermarket introduces self-checkout

Miklagarður, the largest store in Tórshavn’s SMS shopping centre, has been given a big facelift.

One of the major changes in the supermarket is its new self-service checkout.

Johan Ziskason, IT manager, and Dánjal Jespersen, coordinator, agree that customers have welcomed the new system.

Jespersen says that with the increasing number of self-service functions in the store, the latest being the coffee grinder and the milk dispenser, the next logical step was to introduce a self-checkout service.

“We are seeing that 27 percent of customers are using the new system,” says Ziskason.
