Tórshavn mayor wants to reimburse parents

Tórshavn mayor Annika Olsen says she is uncomfortable with charging parents for a service they are not receiving, referring to the childcare fees due for payment tomorrow.

Many local councils have announced that they will be reimbursing parents for fees paid while daycare centres are closed.

“I have been hoping and waiting for a joint initiative from the Municipalities Association and the government on how to deal with this situation, but no agreement has been made,” she says.

Solution coming soon

“This has left each local council with the task of working out a solution individually, and Tórshavn City Council will also try to find a solution as soon as possible.”

Childcare reimbursements will cost the City Council about DKK 3 million per month.

Mayor Olsen says the City Council will meet in the coming days to work toward a solution.
