Job retention scheme expires today

It was incorrectly reported on 25 August that the job retention scheme (Covid-19 lønarískoyti) would be extended until 31 October. The reported extension referred to another special Covid-19 unemployment benefits system.

The ‘Covid-19 lønarískoyti’ job retention scheme expires at midnight tonight.

Magni á Deild, the head of employment service ALS, which administers the job retention scheme, estimates that about 200 of the 600 people currently receiving payments through this scheme will be transferred to the regular unemployment scheme.

“Those who do not have a job to go to tomorrow should sign up for regular unemployment benefits, either through als.fo or by calling 349559,” he says.

The total cost of the job retention scheme, which was implemented at the start of the lockdown in mid-March, has been DKK 134 million.
