Fears over Covid spread in Klaksvík
Extensive contact tracing has been taking place in Klaksvík since yesterday, and many locals have been quarantined.
The reason is that a person, who had recently arrived from abroad and who was confirmed Covid positive yesterday, visited a Klaksvík bar with up to 500 visitors on Saturday night.
The chief medical officer has called on everyone who may have been in contact with the infected person to get tested.
High demand for testing
This has led to an unusually high number of Covid tests at Klaksvík Hospital today. Private test lab Thetis also opened a pop-up testing station in the KÍ sports hall today to meet the sudden high demand for testing in the city.
Police carried out spot checks in Klaksvík bars last weekend to provide advice on Covid safety precautions and to ensure compliance with the recommended 2am closing times.
Jackson bar, where the infected person had been seen, closed at 3am and had about 250 visitors inside and roughly the same number outside, according to the police.
