Renewed authority to close bars

Trade minister Helgi Abrahamsen has again been given the green light to impose compulsory closing times on bars and restaurants as a Covid-19 safety precaution.

This authority, which also includes setting a maximum allowance of people inside nightlife establishments, was first granted in late June through an executive order.

The executive order expired at the end of August, and now it has been renewed with a 14-11 majority vote in Parliament and will be in force until 1 February 2021.
