The number of foreign nationals with work and residence permits in the Faroes was about 2,000 in 2020, the same figure as in 2019, reports Statistics Faroe Islands.

In the first 14 years of this century, between 400 and 700 foreign nationals held work and residence permits in the Faroe Islands. The sudden activity spike in the country around 2014 saw this number shoot up significantly over the next few years, peaking at above 2,000 in 2019.

There was a notable increase in violations of the Aliens Act from 2017 (13) to 2019 (72). Last year, this figure was as high as 92.
