Big shark tank set up in Argir
A large tank for porbeagle sharks is under construction at the Sjósavnið national aquarium in Argir, near Tórshavn.
Billed as the first on-land shark tank of its kind in the world, the 300 square-metre, 650-tonne tank is made up of ten large containers formed into a ring.
The containers are sealed together to make a tank, with a large window fitted in one of the containers to allow visitors to view the sharks.
According to Tórshavn City Council, the first porbeagle sharks will be put into the tank next month.
The new tank is a prototype, and if the Sjósavnið aquarium building is expanded in the future, a similar tank will be set up inside the building.
