Oldest person in the Faroes turns 106

Nikala Laurina Franciska Jensen, known as Kala, was born on this day in 1915.
Born in Glyvrar, she moved to Sumba as a little girl, and she has lived most of her life there. She now lives at Tvøroyri’s elderly care home, where the big day is being celebrated.
Kala is the oldest woman who has lived in the Faroes. She broke the old record last year, a record which had been held for more than 40 years by Drikka á Fløtti in Gjógv, who died in 1980 at the age of 105 years, four months and three weeks.
The oldest man ever in the Faroes was Theodor Thomassen from Sørvágur. Theodor was born 28 October 1908 and died 9 March 2016, at the age of 107.
