Oldest Faroese person dies aged 106
The oldest person in the Faroes, Nikala Laurina Franciska Jensen, commonly known as Kala, has died at the age of 106.
Kala was born on 3 September 1915 in Glyvrar, Eysturoy. She moved to Sumba, Suðuroy, as a little girl and remained there throughout most of her life.
She spent her last years living at the elderly care home in Tvøroyri.
Oldest woman on record in Faroes
Kala is the oldest woman who has lived in the Faroes. She broke the previous record last year, a record which had been held for more than 40 years by Drikka á Fløtti in Gjógv, who died in 1980 at the age of 105 years, four months and three weeks.
The oldest man ever in the Faroes was Theodor Thomassen from Sørvágur. Theodor was born on 28 October 1908 and died on 9 March 2016 at the age of 107.
