Sandoy tunnel breaks through
Today was a day of celebration in Sandoy as the final detonation of the tunnel to Streymoy was blasted

A big crowd gathered today as 94-year-old Sandur resident Harriet Krogh Jensen triggered the final blast for the Streymoy-Sandoy subsea tunnel.
“This is the highlight of my political career,” said Skopun mayor Gerhard Lognberg in his speech.
“The moment was so touching that I actually shed a tear of joy.”

Sandur mayor Heri Sverrason said that the tunnel places new demands on Sandoy.
“It is now up to us to direct people southwards rather than northwards.”
It is estimated that the tunnel will open to traffic in December 2023.
