In-demand Faroese whisky being sold illegally online

The latest batch of Føroya Bjór’s ‘Einar's Single Malt Whisky’ flew off the shelves earlier this month with a price tag of DKK 1,175 per bottle.
Some of these bottles are now trading at up to DKK 10,000 on various Facebook marketplaces.
Alcohol monopoly Rúsdrekkasøla Landsins, commonly known as ‘Rúsan’, has been looking at ways to prevent this hoarding behaviour at the launch of the new batches, but these attempts have so far been unsuccessful.

Rúsan’s managing director Rógvi Andrias Fossádal has declined to comment further on the matter.
Føroya Bjór CEO Einar Waag has called on Rúsan to place limits on the number of bottles each customer can by.
”Our production capacity is quite limited at the moment, and we want as many people as possible to be allowed to get a bottle,” he says.

It is illegal for individuals to sell alcohol without a licence.
Police chief Michael Boolsen says he does not know if anyone has reported cases of private sales of alcohol on social media.
“This is a matter for the trade ministry, which oversees the law on alcohol sales,” he says.
