New drug abuse prevention plan
The Prime Minister was handed an overall plan aimed at controlling and preventing substance abuse on Friday.
“Treatment options are available to substance abusers in the Faroes. But there is a lack of interdisciplinary work in this area, and this is one of the key focus areas in our report,” says Gudrun Mortansdóttir Nolsøe, who heads the working group that compiled the report.

The working group includes representatives from the police, the association of municipalities, the Prime Minister’s Office and the finance, culture, social and health ministries.
The report, commissioned in December 2020, presents 58 recommendations centred on reviewing areas such as services and institutions, parental roles and parental cooperation, treatment and follow-up treatment, supervision, statistics, registration and research.
Some of the recommendations are intended to be implemented this year, while others are transitional arrangements which will be phased in until 2028.
