Sport for visually impaired people

Visual impairment should not be an obstacle for enjoying sports – and it isn’t.
So says Anja Christensen, who together with Parasport Føroyar arranges weekly goalball training sessions in Eysturoy.
Ear-hand coordination
Wikipedia defines goalball as “a team sport designed specifically for athletes with a vision impairment. Participants compete in teams of three and try to throw a ball that has bells embedded in it into the opponents' goal. Using ear-hand coordination, originating as a rehabilitation exercise, the sport has no able-bodied equivalent.”
Weekly sessions
“We only started recently, so our training schedule hasn’t been completed yet,” explains Christensen.
“We have had a few sessions in Runavík’s Bylgjan sports hall on Thursdays, but there have also been some cancellations.”
She advises anyone interested in playing goalball to contact Parasport Føroyar for further details about the training sessions.
