Faroese language is ‘irrelevant’ to Google

Faroese advertisers have for years been urging Google to approve adverts written in the Faroese language, but Google’s door remains shut.
As the search engine does not understand Faroese, advertising material submitted in Faroese are simply returned to the sender, according to Niels Uni Dam, who heads Samskifti, the Faroese umbrella body for advertising firms.

“This presents Faroese businesses with a massive obstacle as it greatly limits their competitiveness relative to overseas businesses,” he says.
“This is not due to any hostility from Google’s side; the Faroese language is simply too small and insignificant for the world’s largest search engine to consider it relevant.”
