Runavík municipality has signed a deal with construction firm Articon to develop 27 plots in Skála, which are expected to be ready in November 2020.

“We are seeing great demand for new homes in Skála ahead of the tunnel opening,” says Runavík mayor Tórbjørn Jacobsen.

The Eysturoy-Tórshavn subsea tunnel, which is expected to be taken into use next year, will connect the two islands, and through a roundabout inside the tunnel, it will also connect Runavík on the eastern arm of the Skálafjørður fjord with Skála’s neighbouring town of Strendur on the western arm.

This is the first development of building land in Skála since Skála municipality merged with Runavík municipality on 1 January 2005.
