Highest number of cancer cases ever
A total of 370 cancer cases were registered last year

The 2019 annual report by the Faroese Cancer Society reveals that there were 370 cancer cases last year, which is the highest figure ever.

In the years from 2009 to 2017, the figure was between 200 and 250, and before 2009 it was between 150 and 200.

Cancer study underway

Last year saw the launch of a PhD study into cancer in the Faroe Islands.

The study looks at the relationship between cancer and age, location, social circumstances, changes over time and whether certain families are particularly affected by cancer.

There is also a special focus on child cancer in the study.
