The total newspaper circulation has gone from 50,700 in 2006 to 12,300 last year, which is a 75-percent decline in 13 years.

In 2006, there were seven newspapers; now there are only three.

Last year, Sosialurin had a per issue circulation of 6,500, Dimmalætting 3,000 and Norðlýsið 2,800.

The number of book publications has been slightly steadier, although there has also been a slight decline in recent years, with 206 publications in 2018, compared to a peak figure of 263 in 2012.
