More pocket money for children in social care
More pocket money for children in social care
Children and youths who are placed in social services will be given an increase in pocket money from next year

Elsebeth Mercedis Gunnleygsdóttir, the Minister of Social Affairs, has decided to increase pocket money for children in social care next year
26.10.2020 - 15:31
Children and youths in social care receive a fixed weekly amount in pocket money from the state.
The amount is paid on an increasing scale according to age. For example, the fixed weekly payout of DKK 24 to children aged 3-6 will increase to DKK 40 on 1 January.
For those aged over 16, the current weekly payout of DKK 227 will increase to DKK 275.
These amounts are adjusted every year.
The Ministry of Social Affairs pays pocket money to children who live in state-owned institutions, while the local councils pay to children who live with their foster parents.
