No plans to enforce Covid compliance
The government will stick with its strategy of trusting people to adhere to the Covid guidelines instead of intensifying enforcement of restrictions

The health authorities are working on new ways to protect the country against Covid-19.

But these plans will continue to be based on trust rather than laws and regulations, says Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen.

“One of the options we are looking at is introducing a requirement that travellers get tested before travelling to the Faroes and upon arrival provide a negative test result taken within a certain number of days.”

Another option, he says, is a text message system which reminds travellers to get tested again on the sixth day after arrival.

The Prime Minister’s announcement comes in the wake of comments from MP Christian Andreasen, chairman of the Parliamentary Rules Committee, who today urged the government to introduce a six-day mandatory quarantine for incoming travellers, followed by a mandatory follow-up test on the sixth day.

Arguing that there is a general lack of respect for the Covid guidelines, Andreasen also called for tighter controls on closing times and the maximum allowance of people allowed in bars and restaurants.
