Fewer written exams this summer

Faroese upper secondary students have for some time been complaining that they have to sit far more exams than their Danish counterparts.

The large number of exams affects their mark averages, they argue, and that puts them at a great disadvantage when it comes to applying for higher education.

Schools and the culture ministry have now taken these complaints to heart, reducing the number of written exams this summer from eight to six.

Big difference in marks

This decision is partly based on written exam marks being, on average, considerably lower than preliminary marks (5.70 vs 7.49).

The number of oral exams will remain unchanged as there is virtually no difference between the average oral exam marks and preliminary marks (7.98 vs 8.08).
