PM: Covid situation still under control
Faroes remain in yellow ‘Covid traffic light’ zone despite record-high daily figures
Prime Minister Bárður á Steig

The average daily number of Covid cases over the past week is 77, which according to the original Covid traffic light response plan means the country should move from yellow to red.

But we will remain yellow for the time being, says Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen (pictured above - photo captions somehow do not appear on the site).

“The traffic light system was introduced in early November before the Omicron variant arrived, and the circumstances have changed since then,” he says.

“Our key objective throughout this pandemic has been to keep the pressure on our health system under control, and with the relatively few Covid hospitalisations we have now, it is too early to go into the red zone.”
