Seasonal clock changes announced
This year’s summer time will be from 27 March to 30 October

The switch from winter time to summer time will take place on 27 March, meaning that clocks will move forward one hour. Clocks will go back to winter time on 30 October.

The practice of seasonal clock changes was first introduced in World War One to save energy by prolonging evening daylight in summer.

In 2019, the European Parliament voted in favour of a proposal to get rid of mandatory seasonal clock changes from 2021. But the EU Council of Ministers voted down the proposal.

A recent EU-wide opinion survey generating 4.6 million responses revealed an 84-percent majority in favour of ending mandatory clock changes.
