US and Faroes to launch chamber of commerce

The American and the Japanese ambassadors to Denmark visited the Faroes last week.
The main purpose of the visits was to expand trade ties with the Faroes, according to the House of Industry, which hosted an information event in which the US and the Japanese delegations were given an introduction to Faroese industry and society.
Faroese industry representatives met with Alan Leventhal, the new U.S. Ambassador to the Danish Kingdom, and the two parties gave presentations about the possibilities for strengthening the trade ties between the two countries.

A concrete step in this process is the US-Faroe Business Forum, a chamber of commerce which will be formally launched in the coming days.
Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen last month announced plans to open a Faroese representation office in Washington DC.
US-Faroese trade relations have grown considerably in recent years. Last year, the Faroes exported goods and services worth more than DKK 1 billion, which is DKK 700 million more than a decade ago. Faroese imports from the US have also increased significantly in recent years, reports the House of Industry.
