It is important for the Faroese industry to bridge the gap to the next generation.

This has prompted Vinnuhúsið (the House of Industry) to launch a survey to help employers figure out what expectations and demands the so-called Generation Z has of working life.

The #vitvænta (#weexpect) survey website writes:

“There is increasing international research on GenZ, but very little has been done in the Faroes to learn about what this generation expects of the labour market, employers and the general work environment.”

The aim of the survey is to give a voice to an internet-native generation embarking on a new chapter in their lives.

“The GenZ attitude to employers is different from that of previous generations,” explains survey leader Durita Fagradal Augustinussen.

“They do not feel the same level of loyalty to the workplace, and they demand increased access to management.”

A defining feature of this generation, she explains, is that their values are to a great extent shaped by growing up with the whole world at their fingertips through the internet.

”If their demands are not met, they move on. They know their value and they tend to regard the labour market as a buffet where they can pick and choose what they want.”
