New district planned for Tórshavn

The capital’s population is growing fast, with 400-500 new people added to the register every year.

To keep up with this growth, Tórshavn City Council has decided to build a new district in the area above Glasir college in the city’s west end.

At a meeting on Friday, the council agreed to build a district consisting of 492 properties, which would house up to 1,500 people.

Work begins immediately

”It is too early to say when these properties will be ready to use, but we will begin our planning and construction immediately because there is clearly a very high demand,” says Tórshavn mayor Heðin Mortensen.

“We are also keeping a close eye on the need to expand or build new daycare centres and schools.”
