Minister: we cannot ban phones in schools

Banning mobile phones in schools goes against the spirit of digital and general development outlined in the law on the fólkaskúlin primary and lower-secondary school.

His ministry is currently preparing a set of guidelines about mobile phone use as requested by schools.
These guidelines are meant to be implemented and adapted by each school individually in close consultation with the pupils.
“Our guidelines will include a clear recommendation that every school should have a policy regarding mobile phones,” said the minister.
He added that there is not much research data in the Faroes about the challenges that mobile phones present in schools.
