Work begins on city tunnel

The first blast for the new tunnel that forms a central part of the new access road to the capital will take place tomorrow morning.

Representatives from Tórshavn City Council and the government will be detonating the first blast, reports news portal in.fo.

In December 2022, the city council signed a DKK 324m contract with local construction firm Articon.

The work covers the stretch from the roundabout at the Eysturoy-Tórshavn subsea tunnel (pictured above) to the Marknagil district, near Glasir college.

The 2.2km tunnel will go from the Sundsvegur area (near the Nordic House) to the Marknagil district.
