The Nordic House turns 40

Today marks the 40th anniversary of the opening of the iconic Nordic House in Tórshavn.
Annika Hoydal, one of the country’s most famous singers, played the first concert in the house when it opened on Sunday 8 May 1983.
And this afternoon, 40 years on, she will again be performing some of her much-loved songs.
A unifying place
Gunn Hernes, managing director of the Nordic House, says the house has played an important role in Faroese culture over the decades.
”The Nordic House has played a unifying role and contributed to some positive changes in Faroese society,” she says.
“I would like to welcome everyone to our big birthday party which starts at 3pm today.”
