Festival security guard punched in the face

Two cases of assault were reported between 2pm and 3pm last night at the Summarfestival in Klaksvík.

A security guard was reportedly punched in the face by a festivalgoer.

Police say the suspect is an old offender. The guard has been taken to hospital for observation.

In the other assault case, details are currently scarce, but a man has been detained.

Many eyewitnesses were present, and they, along with the suspect, will be interviewed today.

Police also picked up five people who had drunk too much last night – four in Klaksvík and one in Tórshavn. Relatives have been asked to come and pick them up.

Earplugs for festivalgoers

Visitors at the Summarfestival are being offered earplugs free of charge to protect their hearing during the concerts.

Hoyr, an interest organisation for people with hearing loss, handed out about 1,200 pairs of earplugs on Thursday, which was the first day of the festival.

”We are happy to be working with the Summarfestival team because we want to ensure that everyone, young and old, is as safe as possible at music festivals,” said a Hoyr spokesperson.
