New rat catchers ready to make rodents squeak

Fourteen people representing local councils and the public transport company spent last week learning about rat extermination.

Through lectures, practical exercises and discussions, the people learned how to prevent rat infestations and to effectively eliminate them.

On Friday, they received official recognition of their newly acquired skills in rat extermination, valid for five years.

This is the second time that the Environment Agency organises this type of course as part of ongoing efforts to keep the small islands remain free of rats.

There are currently no rats in Fugloy, Svínoy, Kalsoy, Nólsoy, Hestur, Koltur, Sandoy, Mykines, Skúvoy, Stóra Dímun and Lítla Dímun.
