Immigration office needs to expand
The Immigration Office is expected to take on the management of work and residence permits and family reunification applications next year

In 2018, the Immigration Office handled 1,122 cases. By 2022, this figure reached 2,848, and next year it will surpass 3,000.
With this growing demand comes a need to hire more staff, and the government has now requested DKK 500,000 to hire an immigration lawyer by 1 April 2024.
However, the Immigration Office’s expected takeover of family reunification and work/residence permit matters has not been budgeted for in 2024.
The government says that once this takeover is finalised, the Immigration Office will require three or four extra staff members.
