Faroese author shortlisted for 1973 Nobel Prize
Newly released documents reveal the contenders for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1973

Details of the contenders for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1973 have been kept secret for half a century.

Yesterday, however, the Swedish Academy, which awards the Nobel Prize in Literature, released a list of contenders for this prize in 1973.

One hundred names are included in the list, and among them is William Heinesen, reports blogger Birgir Kruse.

One of those who nominated Heinesen for the prize was Arthur Arnhotz, a professor of Nordic Philology at the University of Copenhagen.

The 1973 Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to Australian author Patrick White.
