GP strike put on hold

GP strike put on hold
The doctors’ strike scheduled for 8am this morning has now been postponed for a week

03.05.2018 - 12:20

The Conciliatory Board yesterday postponed the announced GP strike for a week.

However, the Conciliatory Board is not authorised to make such a decision, Marjus Dam, chairman of the General Practitioners’ Association, said yesterday.

The Permanent Arbitration Court will now assess the details of the Conciliatory Board’s authority in this matter.

The Ministry of Finance and the GPs’ Association have been locked in a contract dispute since February, and their contract expired on Tuesday.

“Our GPs are overburdened, and they’ve had enough,” Marjus Dam, chairman of the GPs’ Association said on Tuesday. “Our working conditions are unacceptable. We demand serious negotiations.”

On 18 April, Mr Dam advised the public to prepare for a possible strike and stock up on their prescription medication in case the dispute resulted in a doctors’ strike.
