PM stands firm on “final” tunnel decision
The Prime Minister insists that the Dalur tunnel project should be given priority over the Fámjin tunnel
The road between Dalur and Húsavík on the island of Sandoy is said to be unsafe, partly due to a constant risk of landslides.

Prime Minister Aksel V. Johannesen has revealed that the government decided four weeks ago to prioritise tunnel work in Dalur ahead of Fámjin.

The decision is final, he says, adding that the government has had no significant debates on the issue since the decision was made.

This comes after a longstanding dispute with transport minister Henrik Old, who favours the Fámjin tunnel project. Mr Old said yesterday that the government’s discussions on the matter are ongoing.

Jónleif Johannesen, MP for Javnaðarflokkurin (the Social Democratic Party), who was born in the village of Dalur, agrees with the Prime Minister.
