It remains unclear whether the captain of trawler Næraberg will be charged with breaching the marine resources Act.

In July, an inspector from Vørn, the Fisheries Inspection Authority, who had joined the Næraberg crew on a fishing expedition as part of a routine check, noticed illegal fish-dumping taking place on board.

The inspector immediately informed the crew of the illegality of their actions, but the dumping continued.

On 28 August, Vørn had a meeting with the police on the matter. It was then decided that Vørn should prepare a recommendation because the case was not deemed suitable for simple processing.

This recommendation is still being prepared, according to deputy police chief Linda Hesselberg.

The marine resources Act states that the fine for fish dumping is to be determined in relation to the profitability of the vessel in question.

A standard fine for purse seiners and industrial vessels in this context is DKK 650,000. However, in this instance Vørn has called for a DKK 1,500,000 fine.
